With reference to Rule No:27 of the Colonial Audit Regu- lations (Revised April 1903) I am directed by the Comptroller

and Auditor General to request that you will lay before the Secretary of State the accompanying Estimate of the amount which as at present foreseen will be required for the cost of the audit of the accounts of Hong Kong for the year 1908.

The share of Home Expenditure includes 20% for pen- sions in accordance with the letter from this Department No:148 of 30th April last.

2. No provision has been taken in this Estimate for any extra cost that it may be found necessary to incur in con- nection with the local audit of the Expenditure on Railway Construction, with reference to which a separate communica- tion will be addressed to you in due course.

I am to take this opportunity of enquiring how the question of the emoluments of the local auditor of Hong Kong stands, having regard to the proposal made in the letter from this Department of 29th March 1906 (No:220)
